California Collection
Each archival gelatin silver print is made by hand using traditional black and
white darkroom techniques. John uses his own synthesis of techniques taught
by Ansel Adams, John Sexton, and Fred Picker for both creating the photographs
and producing traditional black and white silver prints. Favorite locales for
dramatic photographs have included Owens Valley and the Mammoth Mountain area,
Joshua Tree, Death Valley and Yosemite National Parks, in addition to the
San Diego coastal areas.

Point Lobos
Edward and Brett Weston were among the first photographers to explore Point Lobos.
Because the enduring strength of their images made from there, Point Lobos is
a favorite site for large format photographers, as it is for me.

Ancient Stories
The ancient inhabitants of the Southwest left their traces upon the landscape
in the form of petroglyphs, pictographs and the remains of their dwellings.
This is all that remains of these ancient peoples, and I feel a sense of mystery
in the presence of these remnants in the landscape. This collection of black
and white photographs attempts to reveal these mysteries, as well as show the
beauty and form of what is left of their lives in the vast southwest.
